How Seeing Machines / Caterpillar cut fatigue events by up to 90% through eye-tracking

Camera analytics detect microsleeps and distraction in real time. Sites reported 7090% reductions in fatigue-related events.

Context

Fatigue-related incidents were a significant contributor to safety events across the site. Operators often worked long shifts in demanding environments, increasing the likelihood of reduced alertness. The mine needed a reliable way to detect and mitigate fatigue risks in real time.

Solution

Camera-based fatigue detection was deployed alongside site-level analytics to monitor operator behavior and identify signs of fatigue early. Alerts were integrated into existing safety workflows so that supervisors could intervene promptly. Data insights helped refine rosters and work practices.

Results

Quality: 90% reduction

The site achieved a 70–90% reduction in fatigue events, representing a substantial improvement in operator safety. Real-time alerts provided early intervention opportunities and supported improved shift planning.
